ABOUT LEXI

Hi! My name is Lexi and I am the owner of 4 Paws Pet Care. From as early as I can remember I always loved all animals and been particularly obsessed with dogs! While I was in high school I also attended Tafe to study a Certificate in Animal Studies simultaneously volunteering my weekends to work in the vets. After completing high school I went to University to study commerce and got a 'normal' job. In 2015 I started 4 Paws Pet Care  with the intent of just being and dog walking business to fill my dog void while working in the dental industry. Very soon after start the business I found that there where not many options for pet owners when going away other than the kennels which most owners weren't a fan of. From here pet sitting, doggy daycare and dog boarding were added to the service list.

After adopting my girl, Ajana, through Fetching Dogs Rescue, I found a new community of rescuers, foster carers and past adopters within the 'Fetching Family'. Of course I had to get amongst it too! I've been taking in foster puppies ever since and haven't looked back. I'm very passionate about puppies, not just because they're so extremely adorable (but yes, they are) but I feel I can make the biggest and long lasting difference in their lives by having and training them through their critical development period. Everyone asks how I give them up when they're ready for their new home, I usually find this is the easiest part, I get to give someone a puppy! and I get to give a puppy a forever home! After all, I can't keep them all (apparently)!

I am a qualified dog trainer after completing my Certificate III in Dog Behaviour and Training with the National Dog Training Federation in early 2017. As well as offering training through 4 Paws Pet Care, I work as a dog trainer at The Dog Project helping and instructing group classes for all the local pet dogs. I continue my education by attending seminars and workshops very regularly and net working with other trainers and behaviourists.

I am enrolled into an accredited Canine Health & Nutrition course to give a holistic approach to training, after all, we are what we eat!

I'm always available if anyone needs nutritional advice, just get in touch!

What do I do in my spare time when i'm not caring for other peoples pets? I do more dog stuff of course! My hobby is training my own dogs in various sports.

I have a working line German Shepherd Dog, Joy, who competes in IPO/IGP (Schutzhund), a German dog sport that was developed as a breed suitability test for the German Shepherd breed. The test would determine if the dog displayed the appropriate traits and characteristics of a proper working German Shepherd. Through this she is trained in obedience, tracking and protection work.

My little rescue girl, Ajana, attends group classes a couple of times a week as well as training for GRC sport. Jana also loves tracking and anything scent searching related, she's a real sniffer!

I'm sure there will be a lot more to add as I'm always off on new adventures to find ways to improve my furry friends life, hopefully I can help improve your pets too!
